Lasting Power of Attorney

A Lasting Power of Attorney is a legal document that lets you decide who can manage your affairs on your behalf if you are unable to do so.

What Happens If You Become Incapacitated Without a Power of Attorney in Place?

You’ll be denied access to your bank accounts, and you will have to apply the Court of Protection to access your finances, including any pension or insurance payments.

The Local Council will make decisions on your health and well-being on behalf of your loved ones, including end of life care.

You won’t be able to sell your properties.

There are two types of lasting power of attorney as follows:

  • Your Money and Property
  • Your Health and Welfare

It is recommended that both are made and registered with the Office of the Public Guardian.
